Rehab and Performance

Dr. John Schaefer, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS

Dr. John Schaefer is a native of Rochester, MN and a double graduate of Saint Louis University. In his career, he's had the opportunity to work with high-level athletes from high school to the pros and everyone in between. Following graduation, he interned at Champion PT and Performance in Boston, MA, learning from some of the top rehab professionals in the U.S.

He then pursued orthopedic residency training in Houston, TX at Harris Health System, focusing on serving underserved and Non-English speaking communities.

His treatment philosophy revolves around empowering movement through education and simple exercises that patients can easily replicate. I believe in meeting
everyone exactly where they are in their journey to recovery.

His perspective is heavily influenced by his own experiences, including enduring seven broken bones and two surgeries during an active childhood filled with sports and adventure.

Outside of work, you can find him cycling, hiking, skiing, traveling, and enjoying concerts and music festivals!

Frequently Asked Question

Do You Take My Insurance?

We are out of network with all insurance companies. We choose to contract directly with our patients and avoid restrictions placed on our services by third party payers.

Why Don't You Take My Insurance?

We believe you deserve the best! Our mission is to provide the highest quality healthcare to every patient every visit. Unfortunately, insurance companies make this nearly impossible to achieve. We choose to be out of network with insurance so that every visit is performed by your Doctor of Physical Therapy, and you extract maximum value from the entire duration of your session.

What Is the Benefit of a Recovery Massage From a Doctor of Physical Therapy?

One benefit of a recovery session performed by a Doctor of Physical Therapy is that we know exactly what structure we are working on and its function. We understand compensatory patterns and can predict dysfunction that is causing your muscle to be bound up. Leave your visit with less pain, improved mobility, and techniques to implement in your training that complement our body work.

FAQ image

Do I Need a Physician's Referral?

No. A Physician referral or prescription is not necessary to be evaluated and treated by a doctor of Physical Therapy.

What Should I Wear For My Session?

Please wear athletic attire that exposes the body part you are being treated for. Please wear shorts if you are being treated for hip, knee, or foot. Please wear tank top or sports bra if being treated for neck, shoulder or arm.

What Do I Expect Each Visit?

SchaeferHealth Rehab and Performance is dedicated to personalized 1-on-1 care. Your physical therapist will begin each treatment session by performing any necessary techniques to help manage your pain that day. Further treatment will be targeted toward the root cause of your pain. This may include series of guided mobility drills, stabilization exercises, and strength training. At the end of each visit your therapist will provide you with a program to perform on your own until the next visit. Our mission is to instill independence in our patients. We identify the problem, help reduce your pain, and provide you with the tools to regain control of your body and enjoy life!
